I joined Yokohama Post 9467 during the mustering, 16 June 1947 and believe the Charter Member still on the Rolls. i was a civilian employee with the 7th Base Post Office at the time. Served as Post QM in 1949 during the 50th Anniversary. I recall having 701 members in the Post that year, I am sure our peak.  We had an Army Chartered Mess "Veterans Club Fund" for members of Post 9467. This was discontinued as clubs were consolidated, as we did not support an individual unit or command, and the only club that mixed Officers and Enlisted members. in 1950 as Post SVC, I inherited the Post when the Commander and many others were sent to Korea. Then served as Post Commander from 1951- 1954. During this time the Posts in Japan began to gather annually as a "Provisional Far East District", although not formerly chartered, were were "de facto" recognized by National. In 1958 I was appointed as National Deputy Chief of Staff, and served in capacity until the "Provisional Department of Pacific Areas" was formed in December 1966. when I was elected as Department Senior Vice Commander, and served as Department Commander 1967-68, the first full term.  In 1961, Post 9467 awarded me a Life Membership and I have remained loyal there to since. In March 1989 I transferred from the Air Force  at Yokota AB to the Navy here at Pearl Harbor. I retired April 1 1998. I have kept some contact and interest in the Department and am continually proud of its growth and activity. I don't think anyone including me believed the Department would continue to grow  for 30 Years, a record all can be proud of. I am really grateful for the efforts of all who have rewarded me by continuing me humble activities of years ago.

GOD Bless them all.

Yours in Comradeship,

Paul E. Newman PDC
