When Habu - Pup Tent 9 was instituted, it was one of three Pup Tents in Post 9723.  At one time, Okinawa Memorial VFW Post 9723, located at Naha was the largest VFW Post in the world with 25,000  annual and life members.  The community activities and hospital work was so vast that it became necessary to institute three Pup Tents which continued for several years.  The first Pup Tent was Pup Tent 1 (name unavailable).  The second Pup Tent was Mongoose - Pup Tent 3 and the third being Habu - Pup Tent 9.

The Post Home and Pup Tents were located in a building located at Makiminato Service Area (a Military Base) in Urasoe City, Okinawa.

Pup Tent 9 moved from the above location to a new structure constructed by and for Okinawa Memorial Post 9723 on or about 1968. This building was located outside the fence adjacent to Makiminato Service Area on land which was leased from Okinawa Prefecture and considered Master Plan Land under the control of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryuku Islands called (USCAR).

The consolidation of Mongoose - Pup Tent 3 and Habu - Pup Tent 9, in the early 70's, resulted in Pup Tent 9 becoming the largest Pup Tent in the world. Habu - Pup Tent 9 marched at the head of the line in the parade of Supreme Scratch at Chicago in 1974.  Doctor Brash, a Dentist and a Cootie in Habu - Pup Tent 9, instituted the Honorary Fourth Degree in Habu - Pup Tent 9. The only Pup Tent to ever have such an Honor Degree. 4th Degree. Members of this Pup Tent have bestowed the 4th Degree on members of other brother Pup Tents in Grand of the Pacific. As this is an honor Degree, members of Habu - Pup Tent 9 and are the only Cooties authorized to bestow this Honor Degree upon other Cooties.  On 3 March, 2000, Gekko - Pup Tent 13 consolidated with Habu - Pup Tent 9 to become Habu/Gekko Pup Tent 9.  While in storage, the Pup Tent Histories were destroyed by water damage during one of the frequent Okinawa Typhoons.  In 2004, Habu/Gekko Pup Tent 9 merged with Honey Bucket Special - PT 1.
